If we don’t listen to our bodies, our bodies will make us listen

Pain is the nervous system's reaction to threat, which means that when you feel pain, your body is trying to communicate with you and protect you from danger. Respecting that communication can go a long way towards reducing the pain, because your nervous system will trust that you are listening and taking care of yourself.

Unfortunately, many of us have a habit of ignoring our bodies and pushing through. If we continue to do that over time, our bodies will raise the volume of the alarm until it is too loud to ignore, and we will end up with autoimmune conditions or other serious illnesses. If we don't listen to our inner wisdom, our bodies will make us listen.

Our bodies are wise. Rather than treating symptoms (things like pain, difficulty focusing, poor sleep, anxiety, digestive problems, etc.) as things to suppress, what if we shifted our perspective and treated those symptoms as important communications from our wise bodies? How would things shift in your life if you didn't power through and instead asked your wise body what it needs in order to feel supported?

A big part of my work is helping people to build a relationship with themselves, and to learn how to give themselves what they need in order to thrive. When I say that I practice Integrative Health, what I mean is that I'm not interested in masking the symptoms, I'm interested in understanding why you have the symptom in the first place. What is it trying to communicate? How can we listen to those messages and respond with kindness and compassion so that we reduce the threat level and turn down the volume of the pain alarm?

If you need support connecting to your body's inner wisdom, especially if you are working with pain that doesn't go away or keeps coming back, let's work together 1:1 to shift the conditions that are allowing that pain to thrive.
