connection

In Adrienne Maree Brown’s book Emergent Strategy, she writes, “[Resilience is] the ability of something to return to its original shape after it has been pulled, stretched, bent, etc.” I reread that sentence a few times and have mixed feelings about it. I’m teaching Anatomy & Physiology this semester at the Community College of Vermont, and we are currently studying connective tissues. One of the functions of connective tissues is to hold different structures in the body together. They do that by having the right combination of flexibility and strength to enable movement and growth. Too much support leads to rigidity and too little leads to laxity and poor boundaries. Balance is always essential for maintaining life.

Growth and adaptability are also essential for life. I think that in order to do more than just survive, we actually need to be able to learn and grow and be profoundly changed by our experiences. I don’t want my mind, heart, or spirit to return to their original shape: I want them to grow and open.

Yoga is like the connective tissue in my world. It helps me feel grounded without being rigid, so that I can be adaptable and resilient. Yoga is more than just a practice; it's a transformative approach to living well. In today's fast-paced world, many individuals find themselves feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from their bodies, from each other, and from nature. Yoga provides the tools to cultivate mindfulness, enhance health, foster emotional resilience, and build a more peaceful and loving world.

This fall, I'm offering an 8-week series focused on CONNECTION starting October 19th. We'll be exploring connection from multiple angles, including connection to self, connection to community, and connection to spirit. We'll also be learning a practice focused on the connective tissues that will help you feel grounded and expansive, with greater capacity to hold space with compassion and presence.

Includes:

  • 8 Saturday & 8 Monday community practices

  • Satsang on Sunday, October 20th and Sunday, December 15th

  • 1 50-minute mentorship, private yoga, or CranioSacral Session
