Spring Thaw: Yoga & Ayurveda for Spring Workshop

Spring Thaw: Yoga & Ayurveda for Seasonal Balance Workshop April 21st

Spring is a love letter to kapha dosha. Kapha is earth and water. It gives us life and nurtures growth. Like a seedling pushing its way out of the seed pod and through the dark, damp earth, kapha gives us the endurance and stamina to work hard and to trust that our hard work will eventually bear fruit.

Kapha provides love, nourishment, and support. Kapha gives us the gifts of stability, steadiness, and grounding. People who naturally have a lot of earth and water in their constitution are inherently steady, caring people who freely offer love and support to others. They tend be oriented to service and make the best, most loyal friends.

We are each born with natural gifts, and understanding our constitution empowers us to tend to those gifts. Spring is kapha season, and so those of us who already have a lot of earth and water in our constitutions may benefit from extra care this time of year.

I think of tending to ourselves as being very similar to tending to our gardens. Each plant needs the right combination of sunlight, hydration, soil, and external support in order to thrive. We know that plants are affected by the conditions of their environment, but I think we sometimes forget that we humans are also influenced by our environment.

When the earth and water elements increase in nature, they can also increase in our bodies. While balanced kapha provides stability so we feel grounded, too much can lead to inertia. Whereas balanced kapha is steady, too much can make use feel complacent and heavy. We need lubrication in our bodies so that our joints are happy, but too much water can lead to swelling, joint pain, weight gain, and congestion.

When we understand the elements of nature and how they manifest in our bodies, we will know how to intuitively care for ourselves so that we feel our best.
