Starting from a place of wholeness

I used to think Ayurveda was a rigid set of rules and I'm so glad I gave it another chance. Ayurveda changed my life, my yoga practice, the way I practice physical therapy, and my relationship to myself and my world. I feel so incredibly lucky to now be teaching others how to practice Ayurveda in their personal and professional lives, especially because I was pretty skeptical about Ayurveda at first.

Years ago I booked a consultation package with an Ayurveda practitioner and I left every single session in tears. I felt like unless I quit my job, ate the perfect foods, and lived a perfect life, I would never be healed. Can anyone relate?

My first experience with Ayurveda made me feel really bad about myself, and reinforced all the “I’m not good enough” narratives that lurk in the shadows. It also invited me into a deep inquiry around the heart and soul of Ayurveda. I believe that my body is wise and it communicates with me. For me, Ayurveda starts from a place of wholeness, not a place of deficit. This subtle shift completely changed my relationship to my own pain, and changed my PT and yoga practices.

My goal at Lotus is to support you in learning how to listen to your own body’s wisdom rather than following a list of do’s and don’ts.

Following a list of do's and don'ts and narrowing down our lives rarely works, and if it does, it is usually just temporary. If you've been hesitant to learn about Ayurveda for fear that it is just another restrictive diet, believe me, I hear you, and if you take away anything from this message, I hope it is this:

Ayurveda is not a set of rules.

There is no such thing as an Ayurvedic diet or Ayurvedic foods.

There are no good foods or bad foods.

There is no one “right way.”

Ayurveda is not a set of rules; it is an invitation to cultivate a relationship with yourself and with your world. It is a beautiful practice of learning how to listen to your body's wisdom, and be responsive to your own changing needs. We don’t get there by following a list of rules imposed by someone else. We develop this capacity by paying attention to signs and symptoms as communications from our wise bodies, and learning how to support and nourish ourselves so that we feel well-resourced. When we are well-resourced, our gifts naturally shine.

I’m so glad I gave Ayurveda another chance, because it has literally changed my life. It was the key to unlocking years of chronic pain in my body, and shifted the way I understood myself in really profound ways. Ayurveda has deepened my relationship with myself, and taught me how to be in relationship with my world. I love sharing it with others in my yoga classes, and in my private practice where I offer Ayurveda Health Counseling and integrate Ayurveda and yoga with modern pain science in my Physical Therapy practice.

Let's work together to help you move from surviving to thriving. Book a Pathways to Wellness Package to get started. Together we will help you learn how to listen to your body's wisdom and heal from the root up, rather than just mask your symptoms.
